Roguelite puzzler Let’s Revolution! from BUCK and Antfood is a colorful tile-flipping and enemy-sweeping mashup on PlayStation 5. Think Minesweeper crossed with a turn-based RPG, and you’ll have a good idea of how things will play out. Your mission is to corner the King so that you can bring justice to the land of Beebom, all while defeating – or avoiding – its lackeys. The King always hides at a dead end, so don’t you forget it! Oh, and when playing on Easy, safe spaces will be decked out with a green checkmark so that you know you can safely move onto them.

As you take on each board, you’ll be moving one tile at a time, trying to find enemies and defeat them before they can find you and dish out a ton of damage. You’ll move tile by tile using the left analog stick or the D-Pad. On the right side of the screen will be icons that will let you know how many enemies are hiding on the board. Stamina is needed to perform actions, such as a mighty roundhouse kick that will damage all tiles around your character. You will regenerate some energy for each five tiles that you reveal.

Lets Revolution Review - 1

If you step onto a hidden enemy when moving onto a tile, you’ll lose a heart. Enemies only hide on road tiles, and the number on your current tile will let you know how many road tiles are nearby. Using this knowledge, you can decide which tile to move to – you know, kinda like in Minesweeper. By taking each number into consideration and taking a closer look at the board, you can infer which tiles have a road on them so that you can plan accordingly. You’ll need to keep in mind that abilities – be that they use or don’t use stamina – will be on a cooldown. This is the game’s way of balancing things out.

For each, you’ll need to take into consideration the perks and punishments for your character. Remember how I mentioned you’d gain some stamina for each five tiles that are revealed? On top of that, you can also have Payback, which makes it possible for your character to gain 2 stamina whenever it takes damage. As for the punishments, they can include Faster Enemies, which makes enemy clocks 25% shorter, which means you will need to act fast when an enemy is revealed, or you’ll be punished for your lack of effort. These punishments are tied to the character you’re playing.

There are six different characters for you to play as… eventually. You’ll first start with only the Trooper available for you to take on a journey. The Trooper is a proud warrior of Phlox who, as mentioned before, will gain a stamina bonus by revealing more and more ties. It will also receive a bonus after defeating all enemies on the board. Once you collect enough crystals, you’ll unlock Shadow as the first additional character. Crystals will also unlock additional items and abilities for you to add to your characters during each subsequent run.

As for Shadow, he is Count Leo, a highborn assassin who uses stealth and mobility to try and capture the King. He can also hide enemies to avoid combat! Shadow will start every level with full stamina and will gain a coin for every four hidden tiles when completing a level. He will also have Suspicion as a punishment. This will reveal a hidden enemy for every 4 times normal movement reveals a hidden tile.

The coins you collect can be spent at the Smith to learn new perks or abilities to pay a re-roll fee. You could add Flying Leap, which will allow you to move to a distant tile in your current row or column. You could go for Interest, which will add an extra coin to your pockets for every 8 coins that you hold after completing a level. You can also visit Chovy’s shop and pay to fully heal your wounds, increase your max health, boost your max energy, restock on arrows for your bow, or get something special. Perhaps you might be interested in a Scroll of Lighting that you can use to target a tile in the current row or column and attack a 3×3 area of tiles around it!

Another option for spending your hard-earned coins is Gemmams Gyn. Gemma is the one who will teach you the basics when you take on the tutorial for Let’s Revolution! While at Gemma’s Gym, you can try to upgrade one of your skills to make it more powerful and efficient. Take, for example, the Trooper’s roundhouse kick. Pay a coin, and you can lower its overall stamina cost. If you have Interest on you, upgrade it so that you’re rewarded with an extra coin for every 6 coins that you hold after completing a level.

Along with the aforementioned Scroll of Lighting, you can also get your hands on some additional items that won’t consume any stamina when you use them. These can help you gain the upper hand as you deal damage to enemies from a safer distance with an Exploding Pineapple – which deals damage on a 3×3 area, or an Energy Tonic, which will instantly refill your energy to the max. You could also get your hands on a Map, revealing a dead end on the board.

Trophy-wise, this game has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you at the end of the road. And since it’s a Cross-Buy title, if you have a PlayStation 5 console, you’ll get to download the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game, and each one will have its own trophy list for you to work on. The list will be split into 15 Bronze trophies, 10 Silver trophies, and 5 Gold trophies. The objectives to compete will include finishing the tutorial, beating the King, doing so with each of the different characters, beating a heavy guard, escaping from a level with 5 or more enemies revealed, defeating 3 or more enemies in a single turn, maxing out your health, and maxing out your energy.

Lets Revolution Review - 4

Let’s Revolution! is a colorful and fun roguelite tile-flipping puzzler mixed with turn-based RPG gameplay mechanics. It’s an entertaining package with an easy-to-understand gameplay loop with six different characters to play as you learn from your mistakes and make it closer and closer to beating the King. Once you complete a full run, you’ll unlock the Daily Challenge, which, as its name suggests, will have you taking on a different challenge every day. All players will be taking on the same challenge, so you can show how good you really are. Let’s Revolution is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $19.99 purchase will allow you to download both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost.
