Dungeon-crawler sequel Class of Heroes 2G: Remaster Edition from PQube, Acquire, and Zero Div offers a challenging experience on PlayStation 5. For this follow-up to Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition, which I reviewed on Sony’s console, you’ll be taking on a journey that will start at Crostini Academy, where you’ll have to form a group of adventurers of a variety of races and classes to make the most of their strengths and skills as you find the right combination to compensate for their weaknesses.
You’ll be enrolling new students, shaping them up by distributing the randomized Bonus Points (BP) they receive to improve their stats based on your strategy and party build. There are 10 races to choose from (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Khulaz, Fairy, Felpurr, Bahamoon, Diabolos, and Celestia) and 18 classes (Fighter, Mage, Priest, Thief, Bishop, Summoner, Ranger, Alchemist, Psionic, Monk, Samurai, Valkyrie, Lord, Kunoichi, Ninja, Idol, Swordsman, or Puppeteer). That means there are many potential combinations for you to mix and match as needed.
Class of Heroes 2 was released on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) back in 2009 in Japan. Monkeypaw Games and Gaijinworks released the game in North America digitally in 2013, along with a very limited physical print run. I own this physical PSP release. And the digital version as well. This was followed by a PlayStation 3 port known as Class of Heroes 2G in Japan in 2010. Gaijinworks once again worked on the game’s release in North America for its 2015 release, which was preceded by a very, very limited physical release for Sony’s console. I also own the digital and physical versions of Class of Heroes 2G.
It’s now 2024, and, as was the case for Class of Heroes, we’re now getting a full HD port for Class of Heroes 2G on PlayStation 5, hence the Class of Heroes 2: Remaster Edition. This is why we get to play through over 100 dungeons, battling more than 250 monsters, all with voice acting – in Japanese – as well as some other quality-of-life improvements here and there. Just be sure to save early and save often because this won’t be an easy one!
Things have been streamlined a bit when compared to how the prequel handled things. You might not feel as overwhelmed during the first handful of dungeons – you know, unlike in Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition. Something else that has changed is how spells are handled for this sequel. The first game handled spells in a very old-school way by having each spell have a limited number of uses, with more uses being unlocked as you leveled up your characters. For this sequel, you’ll be dealing with Magic Points (MP) for those with access to magic spells.
And now, let’s talk about the trophies! This game features a full trophy list for a Platinum trophy for you to aim for. The list includes 20 Bronze trophies, 10 Silver trophies, and 5 Gold trophies for you to work on. There are many objectives to complete during your time with this dungeon-crawler. Some of these include completing the intro segment,!owning over 100,000 gold coins, using a party skill, creating a student of every race, creating a student of every class, making a donation to the infirmary, filling out the entire map for the first dungeon in the game, being defeated for the first time, and beating 5,000 monsters.
Class of Heroes 2G: Remaster Edition offers a challenging dungeon-crawling experience that improves on its prequel. We have more dungeons to explore, new classes to consider when creating characters, some quality-of-life improvements – such as having MP for cast spells, and not as steep of a difficulty curve during the first handful of dungeons as you get the hang of things. Class of Heroes 2G: Remaster Edition is out on PlayStation 5 with a $19.99 price tag.
