The last PlayStation Showcase we received was back in 2023 and it seems like a year’s break is a good time to host the next one. Earlier last month it was reported that a PlayStation Showcase was being planned for May 2024, however, we still haven’t received an official confirmation from Sony yet. The insider who claimed about the showcase this month has mentioned it again recently, learn more below.
Popular industry insider, Jeff Grubb was the one that claimed last month that a PlayStation Showcase was being planned for May 2024. Yesterday, he appeared on the 839th episode of the Giant Bombcast and spoke about this topic again. Grubb stated, “That PlayStation showcase is happening this month, still apparently”. Grubb adds that it could be next week, two weeks later or even at the “end of the month”. However, he wouldn’t be “surprised” if it takes place next week as it could happen at any moment.
Jeff Grubb is a reliable source for such kind of information, but at the same time, we cannot take it at face value until we receive an official confirmation from Sony. Last year’s PlayStation Showcase was massive, we received reveals like Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay. Alan Wake 2’s release date and so much more across thirty games that were featured during the event.
It is difficult to predict what Sony might be planning to reveal at this showcase event, could be original IPs, games their first-party studios such as Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, Guerrilla and more are working on, PS VR 2 games and much more. Many are also expecting the PS5 Pro to be revealed at this event given that it is rumoured to be released in 2024 itself, now would be a good time to announce it officially. In the end, players will just have to be patient to know for sure.
