Xbox reportedly working to get next Fallout game out “sooner rather than later”

We’ve seen a massive rise in players collecting the Fallout 4 achievements, as well as many other Fallout games on Xbox since Amazon’s TV show dropped earlier this month. With the latest single-player Fallout game being almost nine years old at this point and no sequel in sight, Xbox is apparently making plans to launch a new Fallout game “sooner rather than later,” which is great news for fans of one of the best Xbox RPGs.

Xbox is reportedly making plans for a new Fallout game

Fallout has been the talk of the town since Amazon released its fantastic TV show — which has been renewed for a second season — at the beginning of April, which led to a huge number of players diving back into Fallout 4. While it’s great to see a resurgence in Fallout 4’s popularity, the game is almost nine years old now, and players shouldn’t expect Fallout 5 to arrive until after Bethesda has launched The Elder Scrolls 6, which is likely still years away from being ready. That puts Microsoft and Bethesda in a sticky spot when players are clamoring for more from the Wasteland — there’s Fallout 76, of course, but not everyone wants to play a live-service game.

Thankfully, it appears Microsoft is looking to find a way to get a new Fallout game into our hands sooner than expected. As reported by Windows Central’s Jez Corden on the latest episode of The Xbox Two podcast, “[Xbox is] currently formulating plans on how to get the next Fallout here for us sooner rather than later.”

Corden didn’t have anything more to say on what he might have heard, but did add, “We constantly talk about will we even see Fallout this decade, and the answer is I think we will.”

It would be great to see another Fallout game drop this side of 2030, but with Bethesda wrapped up in The Elder Scrolls 6, it’ll likely not be Fallout 5. The game would probably be a spin-off game from one of Microsoft’s many other studios, similar to 2010’s brilliant Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment. It’s worth mentioning the Obsidian is currently hard at work on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, so it would be surprising if the team were able to return for a second outing in the Fallout universe — although Avowed is set to launch later this year, so who knows!

For now, Bethesda is attempting to keep Fallout 4 feeling somewhat fresh with a new next-gen update, which rolled out last week with a few issues. According to the team, however, Fallout 4’s new Quality Mode isn’t actually broken.
