It certainly seems like it’d be a good idea to do so. We’ve not seen this level of hype around the series since Fallout 4’s launch back in 2015 – and the rocky launch of Fallout 76 hardly helped the franchise in 2018. The latter has turned things around somewhat, but it’s never generated the sheer level of excitement that this new TV show has.
In a sense, it almost feels like Starfield should have been ‘Fallout 5‘, given all this transmedia hype we’re seeing moving into 2024. Sure, Xbox was grateful for a big new IP on its platform last year, but now that Starfield’s launch period is fizzling out, it feels like a big Fallout release in 2023 would have synced up perfectly with the Prime TV show.
Of course, that wasn’t to be, and Xbox is now missing a pretty big opportunity with the series. Games take years to make these days, so unless something is already cooking behind closed doors at Team Green, we’re probably going to be waiting a while for Fallout 5. Still, should Xbox get moving quick on a new Fallout release? Or are you happy to wait for the next big Bethesda entry once The Elder Scrolls 6 comes and goes?
