Microsoft Introduces New ‘Jump Back In’ Feature and Improved Experience on Handheld Devices

Microsoft has introduced a new ‘Jump back in’ feature to their Xbox app which allows players to quickly launch recently played games on handheld consoles that are running on the Windows OS. This update comes on the back of introducing a compact mode last year to the Xbox app to improve experience on a handheld device.

The new ‘Jump back in’ feature, upon selection, brings up a list of nine games on the main Xbox app screen. Players can simply press the menu button on their controller to directly launch any of these games. Microsoft announced this update for Xbox Insiders yesterday, adding that the new update also brings an easier way to access the Friends panel via controller navigation by adding quick access to it through the sidebar.

The Verge reports that it is still difficult to navigate the Xbox app on a ROG Ally device without touching the screen. It is also a bit troublesome to access the sidebar if a user has navigated down a page. They have also reported instances where the Xbox app gets stuck in some scenarios, preventing users from accessing the sidebar unless they are at the top of the page or have highlighted a specific element on the screen.

Microsoft is looking to conduct a survey from next week onwards in the Xbox Insider Hub for players who are part of the PC Gaming preview. They are hoping to receive feedback on the new ‘Jump back in’ feature and update Friends panel access with Compact Mode. This update is likely to roll out for all users after Microsoft has received feedback from testers and tweak the features accordingly.
