Live-Action Masters of the Universe Reboot Gets a Release Date

Whether or not the upcoming live-action He-Man reboot has the power remains to be seen, but it does have a release date: June 5, 2026.

As reported by Deadline, Bumblebee director Travis Knight will be helming the film, which is described as an origin story charting Prince Adam’s space-crossing journey to become He-Man. Knight has teamed up with Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Missing Link) for a re-write of the existing draft of the script. Knight and Butler previously worked together on Kubo and the Two Strings, which was directed by Knight.

Before finding a home at Amazon MGM Studios, the long-gestating Masters of the Universe reboot project was most recently dropped by Netflix, which cited budget concerns as one of the reasons it was backing away. While Netflix remains a current home of He-Man animation, it joined a long list of failed previous attempts at a new Masters of the Universe film; Warner, Sony, and John Woo have all had plans to shoot a new, live-action Masters of the Universe film in the past (with attempts stretching all the back to 2004) but none have made it in front of a camera.

As it stands, the last (and only) live-action adaptation of He-Man remains 1987’s Masters of the Universe, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.
