Gears of War is one of the most popular Xbox exclusive franchises out there, however, players have been waiting for a new instalment to the series for 5 years now, as the mainline instalment for the game was released back in 2019 with Gears 5. Gears 6 has been a subject of speculation for a long time, with no concrete updates about the next instalment, players have been getting anxious. Fortunately, one of the actors from the game series has just teased an announcement window.

Gears of War 6 announcement tease

Liam McIntyre is an Australian actor known for his prolific career in video games apart from the TV shows and movies he has worked in. The actor has played significant roles in various franchises such as JD Fenix in the Gears series, Taron Malicos in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and is even set to play Wolverine in Insomniac’s upcoming title, Marvel’s Wolverine according to the leaks. McIntyre recently had something interesting to say to fans on X (formerly Twitter) which has stirred up a lot of rumours.

For some context, McIntyre’s character, JD Fenix is shown to die in one of the end game choices of Gears 5. A fan recently took to Twitter to ask McIntyre whether JD’s death will be considered canon. To which McIntyre had an interesting reply. McIntyre started by stating that he had “no idea” before writing, “I think Gears of War tells us all in June”. This has led the community to believe that the Gears 6 announcement is set for June. Moreover, it matches IGN India’s story from earlier this month about a Gears 6 announcement coming in the Summer of 2024.

McIntyre also replied to other replies in the thread with one asking whether there could be a version where both JD Fenix and Delmont Walker survive. To which McIntyre replied that he “pitched exactly that to Rod” referring to Rod Fergusson, who was the studio head for the Gears of War series until Gears 5. Rod Fergusson also replied in the thread asking McIntyre what he was “stirring up”. McIntyre also stated in a separate tweet referring to the Gears of War June comment “I think people missed the ‘I have no idea’ part. Haha. I’m just hopeful!” McIntyre’s tweet sure has made the whole community ponder over the question whether a Gears announcement is surely coming, but like him, we are also hopeful.
