Christopher Nolan Is Getting Knighted Following Oppenheimer’s Big Awards Season

After a huge Oscars night that saw Oppenheimer win seven awards out of the 13 categories in which it was nominated, Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas will soon be experiencing a different kind of awards season.

Sky News reports that Nolan, the famed director behind the Dark Knight trilogy, The Prestige, and other notable films, will be knighted, making him Sir Christopher Nolan. Thomas, who is also a producer in Hollywood, will receive a Damehood.

A knighthood is a prestigious award in the United Kingdom, usually granted to “those who have made a significant contribution to their field, usually on a national level.” Well-known celebrity knights include Anthony Hopkins, Patrick Stewart, and other famous British actors.

Nolan’s lengthy career, which stretches back to the 1990s, certainly merits notice. Nolan has directed numerous films that are considered modern classics, with Oppenheimer seemingly destined to be among them. We put it at #2 in our list of the best Christopher Nolan movies, topped only by The Dark Knight.

It’s unclear when Nolan and Thomas will receive their titles. Other honorees include Dr. Demis Hassabis, CEO and co-founder of DeepMind, and Netflix co-chief executive officer Ted Sarandos. In the meantime, Oppenheimer is streaming now on Peacock.
