It’s time to press start on another week of mad savings. I’m mighty keen on a few double packs (like Quake 1 + 2, Deathloop + Ghostwire, etc). Not to mention “whole shebang” collections going for a fraction of the price of a single game (see: Yakuza Remastered Collection, Trine Ultimate Collection, etc).
In retro news, I’m celebrating the 33rd birthday of Super Mario Bros. 3, the pinnacle of the NES’ library. My most vivid memory of this is sitting in a HOYTS movie theatre and getting my mind blown during its unveiling in the climactic tournament of The Wizard (think: a 100 min Nintendo infomercial). Two years of tortuous waiting later, I scored a copy and was forever lost to its secret pipes, warp whistles, and peerless platforming action.
Oh, secondary memory: my neighbour convincing his younger bro he’d get 12 free lives if he “double tapped” the reset button. Hours of progress lost, but decades of hilarity gained.

Persona 5 Strikers
What seemed like it could be a throwaway summer vacation romp actually delivers the story of a full-blown Persona 5 sequel nearly worthy of the ‘2′ Atlus avoided putting at the end of its title. 8/10, great.
Manor Lords is a medieval strategy game that combines deep, organic, and realistic city building with large-scale, tactical battles. Early days, but lots of potential here.

We’re not far off the historical low for this particular “VR + must-own showcase” extravaganza. Still plenty impressed by Sony’s headset, even though I’ve also had a Meta Quest 3 on my face once or twice.
